Bread-soup-bavarianBavarian #Bread Soup Anyone?

I hope so, as Chef Georgio (from Do You Think An #Anzac Slice on Anzac Day Would Be Nice? fame) LOVED being my taste tester today?

I am always curious about all world cuisines and am a fan of Bavarian foods; having experienced many different regions and wines too!

Last month, I “introduced” Are You Curious About This Month’s International Food Challenge – #Persian Cuisine? with Joojeh Kabab – Persian Grill Saffron Chicken!
Chicken-persianThe International Food Challenges are a joint effort of sharing passions for all world cuisines started by Sara from Sara’s Yummy Bites and Shobana from Kitchen Secrets and Snippets.

Feel free to click on their Facebook Group which announces the events and challenges each month.
LogoEach month, a different host is assigned; for this challenge, I would like to thank Saraswathi Tharagaram from www.sarasyummybites.com.

I LOVE learning all things new when it comes to food, and hope I can ask Bavarian #Bread Soup Anyone?

For those who may not be familiar with the history or geography of Bavarian Cuisine, perhaps a few bits of information will help you!

The free state of Bavaria is a state of Germany which is located in the southeast.

Bavaria is “the second most populous” state of Germany, and is “the largest state by area.”

Did you know Bavaria is “the oldest continuously existing states in Europe?”

With this Bavarian Challenge by Saraswathi, she shared:

“Food has always been a major part of German culture. Even the well-known German fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel, makes reference to food.

In 1949 after World War II, Germany was divided into East Germany and West Germany. This division caused the country’s two halves to develop different styles of cooking. East Germany, closely associated with its neighbor, Russia, took on a more Russian style of cooking. West Germans continued the traditional German cuisine. There are also differences in cooking style between the northern and southern.

Germans tend to eat heavy and hearty meals that include ample portions of meat and bread. Potatoes are the staple food, and each region has its own favorite ways of preparing them. Some Germans eat potatoes with pears, bacon, and beans.”

There were three recipes provided by Saraswathi:

Recipe 1
Kartoffenkuche (Bavarian Potato Pancakes)

Recipe 2
Bavaria
Dampfnudel / Steamed Sweet Dumpling from Oven ~ Eggless; with step by step instructions

and

Recipe 3
Brotsuppe – Bavarian Bread Soup

I chose the Brotsuppe – Bavarian Bread Soup as I have been making quite a bit of bread lately and had some to use up; minimizing food wastage!
Bread-staleThe soup was “simple and easy” to make and was “very economical and delicious!”
Soup-BavarianSoup-bacon With the extra bread I had left over, I created croutons baked withe herbs!

I thought this would be part of my Bavarian #Bread Soup Anyone? creativity!
CroutonsI thought Chef Georgio would enjoy some bacon pieces on top as everything taste better with bacon, eh?

No need to add salt to the soup!

I really enjoyed this month’s Bavarian Cuisine Challenge!

Thank you again to Saraswathi Tharagaram fromwww.sarasyummybites.com for hosting this month’s challenge; it really was fun!
