Out with the old, in the the new, as I am VERY E-X-C-I-T-E-D to be sharing my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake with you!
Ringing in the New Year with LOTS of positive thoughts, hopes and dreams; my friends call me The Eternal Optimist.
I hope some of my food and life PASSION, enthusiasm and my bubbly personality is contagiously shared with me!
In case you missed my delayed A Very Merry #Christmas Happy 1st Blog Anniversary, there was a brief mention of a Celebratory Cake.
Is this a huge donut or is this a cake?
I have a renewed appreciation for those people who are naturally gifted to bake!
As you know by now, I am always up to “a challenge” and this was quite a challenge indeed!
Confession time?
I have never made a chocolate cake or chocolate donut from scratch and have never made chocolate ganache from scratch either!
I initially thought, “HOW difficult could this possibly be to do?”
“What kind of cake did you make and what was the filling,” I “hear” you say?
I “sense” you are as keen and eager to know as I was excited making on the day!
A Chocolate Bavarian Cream Cake with Chocolate Ganache and let’s not forget the Minnie’s bake shop Sprinkles (all the way from Disneyland!) given to me by Queen Lou (of #Campebelltown Moonlight Markets 1 and 2 fame) making this 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake even more special!
If you will indulge me for a moment to go back in time.
As you know by now, I am American (New York) born and bred.
Many people worldwide “may” not know it is um, well, popular to enjoy donuts for breakfast in the States.
My particular favorite from childhood was Chocolate Bavarian donuts and it used to drive my dad insane that I ate donuts for breakfast!
I used to suck the Bavarian cream out first, then lick the chocolate off the donut before devouring the rest!
To me back then, eating a donut was a food “experience.”
You might not want to see me enjoy a donut today! lol
When I saw Von from Vondelicious’ Chocolate Cake recipe from Bavarian Chocolate Cake and sweettravellers Bavarian Cream , I “knew” these recipes were a match made in food heaven and with a bit of a twist, I slightly adapted the recipes for my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake!
I incorporated Thermomix buttermilk I had as a result of making Thermomix butter thanks to Writer. Eater. Cook, In The Mix 1 & 2 author Dani Valent.
For those interested in HOW easy butter is made in the Thermomix, here’s the video!
I am trying to stay “focused” and on track with my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake!
I also substituted 1/4 teaspoon Organic Tahitian Vanilla Powder for the Vanilla
extract!
PLEASE tell me I am NOT the only one who sees my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake smiling back at me!
With the beautifully moist cake and Bavarian Cream made, onto spreading it for my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake!
I must admit, some of the Bavarian Cream that just WOULDN’T come off the spoon (as if lol) just HAD to be tasted by Chef Georgio and me!
What I also LOVE about sharing my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake with you, is the ability to incorporate my Thermomix passion and love in making simple, easy to do recipes that are economical and I honestly cannot believe HOW much time and money my new Thermomix has saved to date; has practically paid for itself already, true!
Thermomix owners…do not go past akhawker’s Ultimate Chocolate Ganache via The Official Thermomix Forum and Recipe Community!
I HIGHLY recommend adding glucose for the shiny finish!
Are YOU as EXCITED about the Mickey Mouse sprinkles?
I know you will be surprised in learning I S-Q-U-E-A-L-E-D with delight when I first saw them; ask Queen Lou!
Seeing that Chef Georgio and I were tasting everything along the way ALL day lol, I thought it would be special if I shared my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake with Queen Lou and her family!
What a GREAT idea in transporting my 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake in one piece.
I was inspired by Queen Lou’s and my Conversations over Chivito and Churros while recently at elbio’s patisserie and cafe.
Note the stick in the sanger — Aussie lingo for sandwich; no chocolate ganache or cream was lost in transporting!
Little did I know, Queen Lou and her family were having friends over for dinner. (in Aussie lingo is called tea)
If you think this 1st Blog Anniversary Celebratory Donut #Cake could be more special, please read on; I think you will agree!
These are the photos Queen Lou took (as I was worried if the Bavarian Cream would cause the cake to be mushy) and Queen Lou’s and her friends feedback (with Queen Lou’s permission ) to me:
“Thank you for giving ME your anniversary cake. Our friends G & P enjoyed it so much that they asked to take some home for their boys. It was perfect and there was no excess liquid. Indeed it was sweet, but truly divine. Thank you for your generosity. Your latest blog showcases how much you’ve done over the last year. I’m amazed and in awe! Well done!”
Is this a Donut or is this a cake?
