Can you smell HOW “tantalizingly tasty” this Simply #French Homefresh experience dish is?
“What is it? What is it?, I “hear” you say?
It was only ONE of the “delectably delicious” dishes Chef Jean Claude de Toulouse from Homefresh Experience, helped our group prepare in this “very interactive” Flavours of France Cooking Class.
Homefresh is a local Norwood, Adelaide South Australia kitchen store that sells “quite a range” and “very unique” kitchen products as well as runs cooking classes for “children of all ages!”
I LOVE “being a sticky beak” (Aussie lingo for taking a look; okay, it can also be loosely translated as being nosy lol) in kitchenware stores.
NOTE to readers:
You DON’T want to be anywhere near me in a candy store; where I “look and
S-Q-U-E-A-L” looking for perfect candies to make like with my Kid in a Candy Store DIY Fluted Bowls.
You DON’T want to be anywhere near me in Disneyland or around anything Mickey Mouse; my Very Mickey Mouse Banquet Birthday Party last year where I served 25 tapas style dishes combining my LOVE of Mickey Mouse and foods served at Epcot in Disneyland.
I know, HOW old am I? lol
And you DON’T want to be with me in a kitchenware store like Homefresh ;where I could be entertained for hours!
I’m SUCH a romantic sook! (Aussie lingo for um, well, “sentimental romantic!”)
So, now that you know where you DON’T want to be with me, let me share where you would LOVE to be with me!
At the Simply #French Homefresh experience; Flavours of French Adult Cooking Class.
I had to pretend I was a mature adult on the night with a very child-like view of the world, food and cooking!
YES, I did indeed S-Q-U-E-A-L!!!!
May I introduce the owner of Homefresh Stephen Curtis; he smiles too!
Stephen is “excited being back in Norwood” having worked as a butcher in the neighborhood.
Stephen is extremely PASSIONATE about his Adelaide cooking classes.
Stephen believes “you can’t teach cooking skills too early!”
His cooking classes are available to Junior Chefs, Young Chefs, Adult Chefs and Adult Chef Group Bookings.
And our “ever smiling” internationally renowned chef Jean-Claude de Toulouse
who started the night off by sharing he was born in Toulouse, in the South of France.
You can FEEL Chef Jean-Claude de Toulouse’s PASSION and ENTHUSIASM for food which is contagious!
Chef Jean-Claude shared he has lived in various countries around the world including Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, France, Italy, and Indonesia to name a few!
Chef Jean-Claude also speaks numerous languages and is fluent in Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Arabic also to name a few!
Someone was “listening intently” on the night!
Interestingly, it was about injustice that inspired Chef Jean-Claude to create his first cookbook called Legendary Cuisine.
Chef Jean-Claude (once again) PASSIONATELY shared that his book “talks about ladies who are swept under the carpet for being intelligent, for being charismatic, for being of strong personality and by history they were swept under the carpet and ignored.”
In his Legendary Cuisine cookbook, he brings these ladies “back to life” and dedicates his recipes to them; starting with his grandmother and her life philosophy.
BUY the book; trust me you will NOT be disappointed.
“What dishes did you cook interactively?”, I “hear” you ask in excitement too?
Before I reveal the dishes, I would like to highlight the classes will run over 15 weeks with a new menu for each class.
The flavours will cover 5 different cuisines including Flavours of Europe
(“exciting!”), Flavours of the Middle East (“exciting!”), Flavours of Asia (“exciting!”), Flavours from the Garden” (“exciting!”) as well as this themed class Flavours of France! (“exciting!”)
All classes include knife skills and throughout the night, Chef Jean-Claude shared HEAPS of “hints and tips”; how to cut a scallion, how to cut garlic and herbs, how to “massage chicken” (Ooh la-la Chloe; SA Community Manager – Yelp Adelaide )
I LOVED the banter (Aussie lingo for “playful chit chat” ) and camaraderie on the night!
THINK I am excited?
Onto the dishes eh?
Everyone was delegated a role throughout the evening; some were herb pickers, some were garlic choppers, some mushroom cleaners, some were chicken “masseurs” , some were chicken cookers, some were even vegan cookers!
The Simply #French Homefresh experience caters for all dietary needs, allergies and or food intolerances.
Chef Jean-Claude and “handy off-sider” aka assistant on the night Stephen were with the group every step of the way!
A little vino (I LOVE South Australian red wines! ) did not go astray!
Chef Jean-Claude shared his PASSION about the fresh herbs and tomatoes that were home grown in his own garden and the how fresh “smelling and tasting” home grown ingredients are!
A Simply #French Homefresh experience home grown herbs and tomato salad was made and I am STILL fascinated HOW Chef Jean-Claude can cut vegetables and not have to look at what he is cutting, while chatting away and keeping eye contact with people and not cutting himself!
While everything was cooking, the vegan options were roasted, sauteed and baked!
Perfectly roasted potatoes (YUM!) and Chef Jean-Claude shared his rice “secrets” and presentation with ….am I going to spill the beans today aka share the secret?
I don’t think so, and would encourage South Australians to experience this fun-filled foodies night where you get to increase your confidence and meet new foodies friends at an economical price too!
I have been a bit of a food tease as in order to have this Simply #French Homefresh experience meal and dessert, Chef Jean-Claude started the night sharing his secrets and very helpful hints and tips on creating the perfect crème brûlée!
Sorry, I am sworn to secrecy and you will just HAVE to book for one of the Chef Jean-Claude’s classes; perhaps this Simply #French Homefresh experience?
How “tantalizingly tasty” does this Coq au vin look?
YAY!!! The main course dish has FINALLY been revealed!
Chef Jean-Claude revealed “the tradition” is to use the bread to soak up the sauce and then indulge!
Let me tell you, I genuinely wanted to lick the plate; which on occasion at home I have been known to do!
“What about the crème brûlée?”, I “hear” you say?
Not only did our group learn heaps of hints and tips and also why the crème brûlée changes colours at various stages and WHY….

Am I going to reveal Chef Jean-Claude’s secret?
Um, no!
What I WILL share is Chef Jean-Claude’s crème brûlée was silky, creamy and the best crème brûlée (honestly) I ever remember thoroughly experiencing worldwide!
W-H-E-W!
