IMG_8389Courtesy of Halley from Season to Taste and special thanks to Anna from Adelaide Chocolate School, I got to experience my very first Adelaide #Fringe Show to
review! Very Happy

I “honestly” did not know what to expect and always go into experiences with an open mind.
One always remembers their firsts of everything (at least I do! Wink); like in All You Need Is #Soufflé!

Before I start, for the benefit of my readers overseas, The Adelaide #Fringe is “the largest annual arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere.”

The festival runs over four weeks whereby artists from all over the globe and within Australia participate in “many art forms” (from cabaret to comedy, to film and theatre to penis puppetry! Shocked)

Did I JUST write that? ShockedLaughing

I did mention “something” about an open mind!

Seeing this is a G rated blog, I’ll move one ! Wink

What is different about The Adelaide #Fringe, is there are “900 events staged in pop up venues in parks, warehouses, lane-ways and empty buildings as well as established venues such as theatres, hotels, art galleries, cafes and town halls.”

Tonight’s cafe theatre performance was held at The Experience Cafe in the heart of the city!
IMG_8375 IMG_8378Their “signature purple umbrella” (like no other umbrella in the city) let’s people know when the cafe is open for business.

The Experience “Community” Cafe is an “unusual, quirky, eccentric” place to relax over a pot of tea, offers food, wine and great hospitality.

Look forward to learning more about what The Experience Cafe does to “help people help themselves” for a “better and brighter” future in a future post.

The Experience Cafe is where Season to Taste, Beyond Bidwell and Lovers and Other Strangers will be held during the Adelaide #Fringe.

Imagine yourself sitting a cafe theatre with wine in hand (or cider ale for some Wink) and from behind the curtains comes a series of females, all variously dressed with our first course.

Oh, didn’t I mention this was going to be a nine course “mini bite delights” menu?

Before I get ahead of myself with the food, the production is well written whereby three actresses play the parts of nine characters.

There are nine courses to accompany the nine monologues or more importantly I should share there are nine monologues to go with nine courses. Wink

The monologues introduce the audience into “real life issues” women have, how they cope (or not) with real life issues of anxiety, depression etc. and how they deal with their very real thoughts and emotions, society and internal pressures of “have to do versus want to do” with their life.

Raw emotions are shared which are “thought provoking” and make one say mmmmmm, as I think we all could identify in some way with each character, each scenario presented; either personally or knew someone the character represents or has previously represented in our lives.

Gill (as her character) explained about her affluent life with her “well schooled” education, perfect friends that are “prepped and primed” for a perfect life and Gill’s ambition is to “blossom” (pun intended Wink) as a florist.

What would her friends think?

What would her family think?

Most important, what does Gill REALLY think about her desires and passions?

The audience was left with “Nothing is real other than the flowers…” as we enjoyed tomato, capsicum, red onion and celery soup seasoned with coriander and Tabasco with a dollop of sour cream; served chilled.
IMG_8395The monologues were “well timed” and “well positioned” as just as one was thinking mmmmmmm, the character of Helena did appear! Wink

“Colon, apostrophe, brackets…”

Helena described “the experience of Facebook”, how we are all addicted to it in some way and how we “seem to take it at Face value.” (pun intended Wink)

Anyone who uses social media would know that nothing is ever deleted on Facebook; accounts can be deactivated, but the information and accounts (even of the deceased) are never deleted; the information and photos live on forever even if the person doesn’t.

Anyone who has lost a love one is confronted by this “issue” to unfriend the dead; as it is really the most humane thing to do?

Or is it? mmmmmmmmmmmmm while enjoying Beetroot, red onion, apple and coriander salad seasoned with lime; served on a cucumber.
IMG_8401Briony shared her “epiphany” and how her “mind and body” thoughts didn’t feel like her own.

“What were they?”, I “hear” you ask?

I can’t give away all the secrets on the day. Wink

We were left thinking as we enjoyed our Vegetable springs roll with Vietnamese dipping sauce.
IMG_8404The character of Olive shared her anxiety which made me anxious just listening
to her monologue! Wink
IMG_8408The Corn fritter served with a salsa rose and sprinkled with feta settled me down
nicely! Wink
IMG_8407Anya’s character was “a tad” colorful where she “tantalized” the audience with her shopping spree of a “Lebanese cucumber and two avocados.”

I will leave your “adult minds” to contemplate that! Wink

Lucky for me, the under 18′s are probably in bed, eh? Laughing

47 was a “significant” number to Anya!

“Why?”, I “hear” you ask?

Have a friend in Adelaide attend Adelaide #Fringe Season to Taste and share it with you! Wink

With 47 “vividly” left in my mind Laughing, the audience was entertained with Boiled egg with a Dijon mustard mayonnaise on Turkish toast, seasoned with parsley. Very Happy
IMG_8410The character of Audrey was very profound in sharing her contemplated thoughts of life out loud! Very Happy

This character I believed had the audience thinking the whole monologue through as I think everyone questions where they are in life on occasion, how did they get there and where they are going (if anywhere).

“Can women really have it all?” asked Audry.

“What else could possibly be missing?”

“Why would you put carrots in carrot cake?”

This monologue was amusing and (once again) thought provoking as we snacked on our Mini vanilla Mudcake with white chocolate ganache from local bakery
How Sweet It Is.

IMG_8412
IMG_8413Emily’s character shared how “the fears keep coming” and how she mentally contemplated her life while “waiting for some incredible hole to be filled” as the audience enjoyed some healthy, seasonal fruit.

IMG_8414Amber shared her honest and conflicting thoughts about how “alcohol turns emotions into logical thought.”

Does it?

I was left pondering as I “thoroughly” enjoyed a Handmade chocolate truffle by local business The Adelaide Chocolate School. Wink
IMG_8416Apologies for the photo as the lighting was not the best, but I CAN assure you there was A LOT of mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm’s going on in the audience, and this was not the kind of “thought provoking” mmmm’s, but the mmmmmmmmmmmmm kind; think you know what I mean! Wink

Hazel’s character shared how “longings are never satisfied” as we contemplating this thought over Cheddar Cheese with rice cracker. Very Happy

IMG_8418All in all, it was a delightful production which certainly made the audience think; about their lives, friends, family and society “expectations” on how everyone thinks we should live our own life.

In the end, it is what WE think and what WE choose to do with our lives for OUR own happiness.

Isn’t THAT true?

I was genuinely glad to experience Adelaide #Fringe Season to Taste to review.
