IMG_8152“What is the Adelaide Community Fun Food #Carnevale all about?”, I
E-X-C-I-T-E-D-L-Y “hear” you say?

I WISH each and every one of you was with me at the Adelaide Showground for this year’s Community Fun Food #Carnevale!

For now, you can sit back and relax and experience Community Fun Food #Carnevale through my child-like view of “wonderment and surprise!” Wink

This was my first time experiencing Carnevale Adelaide and I S-Q-U-E-A-L-E-D with delight! Very Happy

Carnevale Adelaide began in 1976; a VERY memorable year for Princess Svetlana of Lucky “Peeking” Peking Pork fame and me! Wink

When Princess Svetlana and I were little, experiencing Little Italy festivals, celebrations and foods in New York City with our dads was always special and memorable.

While, experiencing the sights, the sounds, the smells (of mouth-watering foods), I was transformed into that S-Q-U-E-A-L-I-N-G child of five; okay maybe ten; perhaps twelve.Laughing

I guess I need no excuse, as I still S-Q-U-E-A-L with excitement about foods to this day; ask my friends, they’ll tell you it’s true! Wink

The festival is a fun way of embracing the Italian heritage and culture and “becoming Italian for the day!” Very Happy

In addition to celebrating “the Italian way”, the Adelaide Community Fun Food #Carnevale is a fundraising event; the funds contributing to “cater for welfare needs of the elderly in the community through the Co-ordinating Italian Committee (CIC).”

What I also enjoyed was Carnevale Adelaide “supports other charities and local community organizations.”

It was GREAT seeing the younger generations (not that I am oh so old YET! Laughing) embracing their Italian heritage, and the multi generations sharing free smiles, “catering foods or showcasing their regions” through their South Australian Italo-Australian clubs and associations.

The “sense of community” definitely shined through on the day! Wink

I hope you have an appetite and let’s get on our way! Wink

I think I would make a great tour guide, talk show host, or roving reporter at events such as this!

My name is Joanne aka Joanna aka mickeydownunder aka FANG and I have been know to have a natter. (Aussie lingo for a chat)

Without being a sticky beak, (Aussie lingo for curious; okay, it can “loosely” be translated for being nosy, but in a good way! ) WinkI LOVE listening to people’s stories.

Thank you to the lovely family who didn’t think I was a nutter (Aussie lingo for someone who is crazy) when I walked up to them, asked some questions as to why they came on the day to which they replied that the Adelaide Community Fun Food #Carnevale is “a fun family day out” where they get to experience foods they would not normally eat!

I know they enjoyed their pizzas too made with love from the Campagnia Sport & Social Club.
IMG_8098IMG_8099IMG_8101Thank you to Rosemary from the Society of St. Hilarion and her “very warm and welcoming” smiling volunteers on the day who invited me for a “behind the scenes” tour and brief history of their delicious zeppole; both plain and anchovie.

IMG_8102Zeppoles were (and still are) the ABSOLUTE favorites of Princess Svetlana and me!

The lovely ladies and blokes (Aussie lingo for men) shared their zeppole making PASSION with all!
IMG_8104 IMG_8105 IMG_8108 IMG_8107 IMG_8106 IMG_8103I can’t wait until Princess Svetlana reads today’s post and I can already “hear” her S-Q-U-E-A-L-S ALL the way from New York!

My eyes widened with delight when I saw some large Mastazzoli (honey cookies) “peeking” out at me!
IMG_8114 IMG_8116Is it me, or are these Mastazzoli smiling back at me? Wink

IMG_8117 IMG_8118 IMG_8119 IMG_8122 IMG_8120 IMG_8121There was something for “children of all ages” on the day! Very Happy

And THEN…..there was the Sfogliatelle (a clam shaped Italian “crispy” pastry consisting of hundreds of layers with ricotta and semolina) with two types of cannoli and PORCHETTA (a moist boneless pork roast made in the Italian tradition) by the Campbelltown Rotary Club!!!!!!! Very HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery HappyVery Happy
IMG_8124 IMG_8109 IMG_8110Princess Svetlana and I have have a VERY memorable story about cannoli while visiting Boston in the U.S., but that will have to wait for another day!

Are you all starting to think I have a “thing” about “being Italian” and enjoying Italian desserts too? Wink

While I “restrained” my S-Q-U-E-A-L, inside I was doing the Italian Happy Dance while enjoying the porchetta too; I am known as mickeydownunder in the food world! Very Happy

IMG_8126I LOVED the crackling which I don’t normally eat!

Thank you to the ladies of the Campbelltown Rotary Club for explaining more about Lupini beans (a nutritious snack eaten on holidays) and how to peel and enjoy them too!
IMG_8125I always enjoy learning something new!

Thank you also for pre-warning me on how they LOVE to play “pop out of their skins and fly” too! Wink

W-H-E-W!

I was there and am STILL E-X-C-I-T-E-D sharing the fun-filled food adventures of Adelaide Community Fun Food #Carnevale.

Look forward to Community Fun Food #Carnevale Part II which highlights the EXTRAORDINARY race and sports cars that appealed to car enthusiasts of all ages!

I guess you may not know that I LOVE experiencing viewing race cars and have driven a NASCAR race car or two in my day! Wink

Here’s a snippet to tantalize your “car taste buds” too! Very Happy

HOW exciting was this replica of the highly successful Scuderia Ferrari F2004 race car courtesy of Bridgestone and the National Motor Museum?
IMG_8139
You should have HEARD the B-U-Z-Z of excitement around it and was GREATLY admired and photographed by all “who like to live in the fast lane.” Wink

Other snippets included the “always enjoyable and entertaining” Michael Angelakis and Michael Keelan, hosts of the popular TV show Out of the Blue cooking demo using San Remo “Simply Better” pasta.

IMG_8158Without giving everything away, “someone whose nickname is FANG” participated in the San RemoReady Steady Mangia” Pasta Eating Competition!
IMG_8185Look forward to that “someone whose nickname is FANG” S-Q-E-A-L-I-N-G more in my next blog post on What’s On The List!
